DES MOINES - Former Gov. Terry Branstad formed an exploratory
committee Wednesday as the first step toward seeking a return to the
governor's office in 2010, though associates insist a final decision
has not been made.
Lake Mills lawyer Richard Schwarm filed papers with the Iowa
Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board to create a panel to "continue
to explore the availability of support and resources for a possible
Branstad candidacy for governor in 2010."
Schwarm said the filing doesn't necessarily mean the 62-year-old
Branstad will seek a return to the office he held for 16 years.
"Terry Branstad has not made a final decision on what he will
do," Schwarm said.
