NAPA, Calif. - Jean Wentworth Harris Boyce-Smith died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, surrounded by love with her husband, her son and her daughter-in-law by her side.

She battled declining health for the past four years, keeping her promise to her family "not (to) go gentle into that good night." She faced her death, as she had her life, on her own terms with quiet courage and dignity.

She was born and raised in Concord, the only child of Harriet Blodgett Harris and Charles Lester Harris. At 14, she met Walter Howe Boyce at church.
