NASA hopes it will be a first step in the return of astronauts to
the moon, and it arrived before dawn with a flash of energy that
could reveal whether there is a significant amount of water on
Earth's satellite.
A Silicon Valley-directed spacecraft intended to provide an
insight into one of the moon's biggest secrets hurtled into the
lunar surface at five times the speed of a bullet early Friday,
searching for water that could help support the future exploration
of astronauts.
Watched by hundreds who turned out to NASA's Ames Research Center
to -- a crowd that ranged from grade school students to Google co-
