Article: Pine trees are susceptible to blight, wilt

What's green and brown and shedding all over? That's right. It's your pine tree.

This is a natural process that usually occurs in the fall. Interior needles that are 2 to 4 years old turn yellow, then brown and eventually land in the yard, pond, or dog dish. In some years it is more noticeable than in others.

Check that only the older needles are affected. The needles on the tips of the branches should look fine. There should be no spotting or banding on the needles. If you see this, take a sample to the Extension office for diagnosis.

There can be other problems with your pine trees. Here are a couple of diseases that are causing a lot of stir.
