When actress Tonya Pinkins picked up the script for "Black Pearl
Sings!" she sighed at the story line and then she cried.
"It just resonated with something I am going through," Pinkins
offered, her voice still registering surprise and disbelief at how
quickly she connected with Frank Higgins's script. In the play now
at Ford's Theatre, the title character, played by Pinkins, is put in
prison and separated from her daughter.
"This year my 12-year-old was taken away from me," the actress
continued. "It has been a nightmare."
