Water conservation continues to be a priority in Southern
California.
To help home gardeners in this effort, led a class at Ann
Barklow and Mimi Andersen of Garden Magic Company Manhattan Beach
Botanical Garden in Polliwog Park on a recent Saturday, providing
tips on how to remove a water-guzzling lawn and replace it with a
drought-tolerant garden. This is definitely a trend, since low-
water plants can survive with at least half the water it takes to
maintain a lawn.
Barklow said there is no shortage of misinformation online about
how to kill a lawn.
Some are old wives' tales, such as using pickling vinegar. Other
ideas, such as applying powerful chemicals, can be bad for the
