Article: UW coaches will take furloughs, pay cut

MADISON - University of Wisconsin-Madison head coaches will be subject to state employee furlough days and seven of them have already taken at least one day off.

Gov. Jim Doyle ordered the furloughs earlier this year for nearly all of Wisconsin's 69,000 state employees to help balance the budget. Today is the first statewide furlough day for most state agencies, although the university is open and operating on a different schedule for furloughs.

Eight furlough days must be taken during the 12-month period that started July 1, and another eight must be taken the following year.

The furloughs apply to employees who are funded with state tax dollars as well as those in the athletic department ...
