Czech president wants exemption from Lisbon Treaty

PRAGUE, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Czech President Vaclav Klaus has confirmed that he will seek an exemption from the Lisbon Treaty for his country before signing the reform measure.

Klaus wants a clause in the treaty that in future the rights listed in the Charter of Fundamental Right of the European Union will be assessed by EU courts according to the laws existing in Czech Republic.

A similar right was granted to Great Britain and Poland, he said on Friday.

"An integral part of the Lisbon Treaty is the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union," Klaus said at a press conference.
