Give Jim Kane time, and he's bound to come up with the perfect cowboy quote as he rides off into the sunset.

Kane, Kanawha County's chief juvenile probation officer, retires at the end of this month after 36 years in the department. He's been devoted to helping kids and their families as they come through the court system.

But his other hobby and passion - gleaning and indexing quotes from old Western flicks - isn't going to end. He compiled two coffee- table books - "Western Movie Quotations" and "Western Movie Wit and Wisdom" and hopes to add to that collection.
