A FORMER World War II pillbox at the Bonds Mill Estate in
Stonehouse has been let by the landlords Robert Hitchins Limited to
Wastesafe Ltd on a three year lease.
The building, named The Gatehouse, is an octagonal two-storey
detached construction strategically located at the entrance to
Bond's Mill and includes 240 sq ft of office space.
The pillbox was constructed during World War II and formed part
of "The Bristol Outer Defence Line". As well as being an important
canal crossing, Bonds Mill was of significant importance because a
number of manufacturing companies had relocated to the area from the
South East to avoid the German air strikes.
