LET'S put aside any grumbles, well-founded or otherwise, about
Scotland's production input onto the national airwaves and just
celebrate the spread of home-grown talent that "nds its voice on
BBC radio this coming week.
At the top end of the cultural scale, the return of Edinburgh-
born Donald Runnicles from his sojourn in San Francisco to take up
the baton as chief conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
can be heard in full as Performance On 3 (BBC Radio 3, Monday, 7pm)
broadcasts last week's concert from the City Halls in Glasgow. It's
a night of "rsts, and not just from Runnicles's perspective: the
programme features the Symphony No 1 by both Beethoven and Mahler,
