Article: Jobs created by Arapuni dairy plant

A $100 million dairy factory planned for the South Waikato town of Arapuni is expected to bring 70 jobs and much needed infrastructure to the area.

Zoagn, set up by Waikato men John Courtney and Robert Gifford, hopes to start production by August 2011, signing up 90 farmers, from within a 50-kilometre radius, to supply it with 220 million litres of milk a year.

It will be the third independent milk company in the Waikato to compete with Fonterra, behind Tatua and Open Country Dairy.

While some in Arapuni have criticised the plan, other residents say detractors are overlooking the jobs and infrastructure the project could bring to the town of 300 people.
