Madison -- The recruiting battles between the University of
Wisconsin and rival Iowa can be as entertaining and telling as the
competition on the field.
For example, UW persuaded tailback John Clay to stay home in 2007
and Iowa was one of several schools who hoped to lure him out of
state.
Two key players for Iowa -- senior middle linebacker Pat Angerer
and senior tight end Tony Moeaki -- were recruited by UW but
eventually signed with the Hawkeyes.
Angerer, from Bettendorf, Iowa, attended a UW summer camp when he
was in high school. Moeaki, an all-state performer at Warrenville
South High School in Illinois, was recruited by UW because he can be
effective as a blocker and ...
