Audrey Long isn't just another number in the state's battle with
a $1.35 billion revenue shortfall or its impact on local
governments.
She's a 17-year veteran employee of the Radford commonwealth's
attorney's office who could have her salary cut from $37,979 to
$17,643 in a year. She could lose her house, she told members of
the Radford City Council during Monday night's meeting.
Her voice quavered with emotion and nervousness. "I'm here hoping
that the city of Radford will provide the shortfall," she told
council members, who were receiving departmental reports detailing
the impact of state budget cuts.
Council took no action on the report, or Long's plea, but did
