Sherri Ann Sorofman was always proud to be the only girl on Ware Pond in Marblehead wearing hockey skates.

Standing at just over 5 feet tall (plus a few inches with her black CCM Super Tacks), she was a gifted athlete, whether she was playing hockey with her two sons, tossing a football with a perfect spiral, or biking 40 miles.

Ms. Sorofman, who was known for her athletic skills as much as her personality and poetic soul, died Oct. 8 of lung cancer at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 62.
