Fewer than a third of West Virginia children with serious
emotional disorders are getting proper treatment, and schools and
behavioral health centers should work together to provide strong,
coordinated mental health support to students, state health and
education officials said.
Also, educators and families can communicate better to help the
nearly 5,000 West Virginia military children who are in school
adjust to a parent's deployment, state defense officials said.
Both issues were discussed during an interim Education
Subcommittee meeting on Tuesday at the Capitol.
