Agencies target crimes against seniors
PARKERSBURG - Six law enforcement agencies in the Mid-Ohio Valley
are working together to fight scams and other crimes against the
elderly.
Officials from the Parkersburg and Vienna police departments,
sheriff's offices in Wood and Jackson counties and Washington County
in Ohio and the West Virginia State Police met Tuesday to discuss
the problem.
Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy said frauds and scams have cost
seniors in his county about $200,000 this year.
Vienna Police Chief Steven Stephens says awareness and education
are the only weapons authorities have to fight such crimes because
many victims are embarrassed to report them.
