High above a bank of fog, Aaron Piotter watches with anticipation
as five-men teams of pickers strip bursting clusters of cabernet
sauvignon grapes from trellised vines atop RockRise Mountain. It is
here, in California's Alexander Valley, where a season of meticulous
and passionate vineyard management literally and figuratively bears
fruit. With sustained, bright sunny days ahead, another bountiful
crop is in the offing and winemaking facilities are alive with
activity.
As the winemaker responsible for Ferrari-Carano's red wine
program, you would think Piotter's work begins when the grapes are
