The ninth running of the Baltimore Running Festival (marathon/
half marathon, marathon relay and 5K) was held last Saturday.
The 1984 version of this race was my first marathon, with Satyr
Hill, Loch Raven, et al; so I have a soft spot for the event. I also
did the first of the current version in 2001. Since I was not going
to be around to support the Marine Corps Marathon later in the
month, I decided to set up a refreshment table at mile 21 near Lake
Montebello. Logistics were quite easy - just park along Hillen Road
and take a short walk to the race course beside the lake. It proved
to be a fortuitous location as there were few people out at that
