Article: Fleet Transit's owner to get $1.57M for 81 industrial lots in S. Baltimore

The city has settled a half-decade-long battle with a South Baltimore industrial business owner that will allow what city officials say is a much-needed urban renewal effort to go forward.

On Wednesday, the city's spending panel, the Board of Estimates, authorized the Department of Housing and Community Development to buy out landowner Kevin McNeil, who owns 81 lots in the Fairfield industrial area, for $1.57 million.

City documents said that in the course of two mediation sessions with the city, McNeil, who owns a trucking company called Fleet Transit Inc., which specializes in transporting liquid petroleum tanks, had initially sought $1.9 million for the properties.
