SAN LEANDRO -- If a major fire, chemical spill or hostage
situation occurs in San Leandro, residents may receive a phone call
from CodeRED -- a newly installed emergency notification system.
The system will explain what's going on and what to do, police
Capt. Steve Pricco said. But if residents want to be sure they're
included in the call list, they need to sign up.
Already, 19,000 San Leandro households and businesses are on the
CodeRED call list.
The phone numbers in the system's database were taken from phone
books and phone databanks "but we need everybody else to go online
and register," Pricco said. "Don't assume that we have your phone
number already."
