Article: State Grant Helps Group Root Out Nightmarish 'Tree of Heaven'

Sometimes, protecting the environment means taking down trees.

With help from a state biologist, the Rockville chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America has spent two years rooting out invasive plants at its 53-acre headquarters in Germantown.

The chapter contacted the Maryland Department of Natural Resources' Landowner Incentive Program, a competitive grant system for private landowners funded by the U.S. Plant and Wildlife Service, to help rid its property of invasive plants.
