DAYTON -- The two mayoral candidates offered sharply different views of the city's leadership Wednesday evening, Oct. 14, in their only public debate.

Challenger Gary Leitzell argued for a change in leadership, criticizing Mayor Rhine McLin and the four city commissioners, all Democrats.

"Right now I don't think any of them look good," said Leitzell, chairman of the Southeast Priority Board and an independent endorsed by the Montgomery County Republican Party.

McLin called her commission colleagues "shining stars for the city of Dayton." She said her eight years as mayor have been a "labor of love" for a city she loves.
