GUZ - the Giant Utopian Zucchini that recently gave its life to
raise money to restore New Harmony's beloved town clock - will lie
in state today and Sunday during the Posey County community's annual
Kunstfest celebration.
The squash, as long as a whiffle ball bat, was purchased earlier
this month on eBay for $510 by a New York City man with local ties.
But that was far less than the $12,000 needed for the restoration
of the clock, which has been a fixture above the Ribeyre Gymnasium
since 1924.
The unabashed marketing of GUZ has drawn international attention
to this year's Kunstfest, which celebrates the 19th century utopian
community's German heritage, but the exploitation of the squash ...
