Q: I read your article on crawl space humidity. We just purchased
a home in Boston built in 1734.
This week I discovered rot under a side porch. I ended up
dismantling the porch and tearing out all the rotted wood from the
house. The rotted wood I pulled out was quite moist, so I have to
assume that the plastic in that crawl space is not installed
correctly, or is not the right type.
There also was quite a bit of insect damage. I believe it was
carpenter ants, because I found dust, but I did find part of a
termite body in there. Not a sign of a living insect, but then we've
had a pest control company out here twice in the past 30 days for a
huge carpenter ant problem that seemed to center ...
