One of two teens hit by drunken driver dies
A 19-year-old woman struck on the 10 Freeway by a drunken driver
last weekend while changing a flat tire has died, coroner's
officials said Thursday.
Vickie Chen, who died Thurday, and Elaine Shin Ly, both of
Rosemead, were attempting to change a tire on their Toyota Camry
near the Richardson Street overpass in Loma Linda when a motorist
veered off the westbound lane and smashed into the back of the
woman's car at 70 mph.
The Toyota ran over both women.
Daniel Miersma, 23, of Redlands was arrested on suspicion
offelony driving under the influence and injuring someone. He is
expected to be charged with Chen's death.
