On the north side, a stroll down North Ave. might reveal a busy
commercial corridor with new stores selling healthy foods, an
expanded Fondy Market with a greenhouse and fish shop, and a
construction center that trains workers in new-economy jobs.
On the south side, residents in the Clarke Square area could
learn English and take GED classes in bright, new classrooms while
young people play basketball in a new $6 million addition to
Longfellow Elementary School that would transform the 1800s building
into a modern center for community activities.
The developments would be among the first for the 10-year, $50
million Zilber Neighborhood Initiative, which aims to revitalize ...
