Politicians often talk about getting "a seat at the table," one way of saying who's in on the discussion, maybe exerting some influence.

Patricia Nelson, as down-to-earth as a soft-spoken, 63-year-old Waukesha great grandmother could be, really did get a seat at the table.

The president's table, no less.

Nelson sat directly across from President Barack Obama last week, at a long table in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, where she and four other Americans described how they fell prey to predatory financial practices.

Granted, Nelson didn't have to convince the president of anything. He's already on her side.
