Article: Readers' Forum: Why our country falls down on health care

We need health reform now! Yes, certainly to staunch the increasing cost to our economy, but more importantly to address the challenges of our current dysfunctional system. I know we can do better because of my years of service in academic medical centers, community hospitals and medical groups.

While we have the best equipment, clinicians and medicines, our country underperforms many others, including some in the Third World, when we compare clinical outcomes. For starters, millions here have no health insurance, either because they cannot afford it, or they elect to go without.
