Article: My Word: Nobel Prize for literature within reach, based on presidential standards

I HAVE BEEN inspired by President Barack Obama being named the 2009 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Perhaps I, too, could be a winner.

My aim will be a Nobel Prize for literature, a subject I have a passing knowledge of. And I've got that Irish thing going for me -- the gift of gab, a fertile imagination and a bit of the blarney.

Physics and medicine would be impossible, but literature? Just maybe.

I have a large body of written work. I have years' worth of essays and articles I wrote for the school newsletter, "The sounds of Musick," when I was principal at Musick Elementary in Newark. Seven years, 10 issues a year, represent 70 essays and hundreds of articles.
