Bob McWilliams' anti government rant in his column, Plain
Speaking (The Capital, Oct. 16) is nonsense. Amid a blizzard of
criticism of government activities, Mr. McWilliams cites the
Annapolis boat shows as the perfect case study of entrepreneurial
excellence.
To be sure, our entrepreneurial system serves America well and
provides handsome rewards to those who are successful and millions
of jobs to others. However, the Annapolis boat shows are hardly
support for his claim, "The free marketplace does pretty well
without any help from mother government. If fact, if government
could just get out of the way, we'd probably all do much better."
