After losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Luis Gonzalez's broken-bat, ninth-inning single in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, the New York Yankees had no reason to think a major title drought was on the horizon.

With four crowns from 1996-2000, the Yankees had every reason to believe their dynasty would continue. And, sure enough, they returned to the Fall Classic in '03, only to be knocked off in six games by the upstart Florida Marlins.
