Article: United Way campaign ahead of pace despite slow economy

BLOOMINGTON - United Way of McLean County's annual fundraising campaign for 48 local social service programs is slightly ahead of last year's pace and some people are increasing their giving, despite the recession.

"We feel good about it," said campaign chairman Mark Peterson.

United Way reported Wednesday that - eight weeks into the campaign - $1,238,575 has been raised. That's 25.9 percent of the goal of $4,780,000. The campaign runs through Dec. 31.

Last year at this time, United Way had raised 24.1 percent of its goal.
