Hanger's profit up 31.4%

Hanger Orthopedic Group Inc., of Bethesda, reported third- quarter net income increased 31.4 percent, to $9.6 million, or 30 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $7.3 million, or 23 cents per diluted share, in the year-ago period.

Revenue rose 7.6 percent, to $192.3 million, versus $178.7 million for the corresponding quarter in 2008. Net earnings per share exceeded the average of 27 cents per share forecast by five analysts polled by Thomson Reuters., but revenue fell short of analysts' average expectation of $193.6 million.

Hanger owns 669 orthotic and prosthetic patient care centers in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
