Article: Football season halted at Pius Short-handed Lasers miss playoffs with loss

Going into last Wednesday's season finale against host Milwaukee Pius, the stakes were simple for the Kettle Moraine varsity football team. Win the game and advance to the WIAA postseason. Lose the game, and the 2009 season comes to a disappointing end.

Playing shorthanded because of illness, Kettle Moraine struggled mightily on offense and lost to the Popes, 24-0. The loss dropped KM to 3-4 in Classic 8 Conference play and 4-5 overall. Pius finished at 3-5 overall and 3-4 in conference games.

Illness hit the KM team early last week as six starters, including sophomore quarterback Kyle Kita, did not play. Sixteen of the team's 69 players did not suit up for the game.
