BLOOMINGTON - Sparkle Caldwell of Bloomington had a breast cancer
scare when she was 20 and found a lump. It turned out instead to be
a sign that she was pregnant. Today, the mother of a 5-year-old son,
she continues to pay attention to her health.
She was among more than 150 women attending the first African-
American Women Taking Steps Together, a breast cancer awareness
event held Saturday at the Doubletree Hotel and Conference Center in
Bloomington.
Caldwell attended classes on nutrition and dealing with daily
stress, visited booths about related health topics, and had lunch
with people she hadn't seen in a while.
