HURON, S.D. -- Dr. Richard N. Smith, D.O., FAOAO, of Huron, S.D.,
died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. Born Aug. 20, 1932, in Wooster, he was
the son of Richard N. Smith M.D. and Edith Wiggington Smith,
grandson of Alonzo C. Smith M.D., and great-grandson of John J.
Kinney M.D. He was a fourth-generation surgeon.
He attended Wooster High School, playing on the undefeated
football team of 1949 and lettering three years in college football.
He attended Wooster University and graduated from Kent State
University in 1958, taking time out to serve three years in the U.S.
Army in Germany. His passion for skydiving began in 1958 and he was
one of the very early sport skydivers in the U.S.A., with a license ...
