Evansville plans to buy a two-unit commercial building adjacent
to the Alhambra Theater in order to support "the future viability of
the theater," said Tom Barnett, director of the Department of
Metropolitan Development.
The city will pay $150,000 for an art gallery and a studio at 56
and 58 Adams Ave. and work with the Alhambra's board of directors to
provide the space for bathrooms, dressing rooms, meeting rooms or,
perhaps, a black-box theater to attach to the historical Haynie's
Corner theater.
"We don't want to own it or run it," Barnett said.
The goal is to donate the property as part of a revitalized
Alhambra project, considered the anchor
for the Haynie's Corner Arts District.
