Article: ALHAMBRA PROJECT GETS HELP CITY TO BUY, DONATE ADJACENT BUILDING

Evansville plans to buy a two-unit commercial building adjacent to the Alhambra Theater in order to support "the future viability of the theater," said Tom Barnett, director of the Department of Metropolitan Development.

The city will pay $150,000 for an art gallery and a studio at 56 and 58 Adams Ave. and work with the Alhambra's board of directors to provide the space for bathrooms, dressing rooms, meeting rooms or, perhaps, a black-box theater to attach to the historical Haynie's Corner theater.

"We don't want to own it or run it," Barnett said.

The goal is to donate the property as part of a revitalized Alhambra project, considered the anchor

for the Haynie's Corner Arts District.
