'IF you don't build it, they will come."
That was what the fellow from the Santa Monica Mountains
Conservancy said, one of many who took the mic up at the dedication
of the Annandale Canyon wilderness area Thursday morning.
It was the truest thing. If you did build it - a couple dozen
luxury houses once planned for the isolated area in the far reaches
of the Linda Vista hills - then the homeowners and their friends
would have come, true. But now all of us can come - hikers, joggers,
dog-walkers, Christopher Nyerges and his weekend wild-food group
plucking the foliage for a fine weedy lunch.
