On a gloomy day, walking into the Mexican seafood restaurant La Canoa provides a lift.

Outside, it's gray; inside at this casual south side restaurant, it's a bit like the land of Oz in all its Technicolor splendor: wooden chairs in every hue and murals of seaside scenes, with brilliant parrots and sunsets.
