Brunswick Corp., which owns Mercury Marine Inc. in Fond du Lac, said Thursday it plans to increase boat production in 2010 to help dealers restock depleted inventories.

The move should reduce Brunswick's losses next year, executives with the Lake Forest, Ill., company said in a conference call addressing third-quarter earnings.

The world's largest maker of recreational boats, as well as fitness, bowling and billiards products, narrowed its loss to $114.3 million, or $1.29 a share, from $729.1 million, or $8.26, a year ago.

Sales fell 36% to $665.8 million from $1.04 billion.
