Article: Referendum petitions stall vote on Grafton dam Structure needed to keep out lampreys, village told

Grafton -- A Village Board decision on whether to demolish the Bridge St. dam on the Milwaukee River must wait until next month now that several residents are circulating petitions for a referendum on preserving the historic structure, Village Attorney Michael Herbrand said Thursday.

The intent to circulate referendum petitions temporarily blocks board action on the issue, Herbrand said. His announcement surprised board trustees and several dozen residents attending Thursday's special board meeting scheduled to decide the fate of the dam.
