EMD Serono holds ceremony in Billerica
ROCKLAND - EMD Serono Inc. of Rockland marked the expansion of
its Billerica research plant on Monday with a topping off ceremony
attended by EMD Serono executives as well as state and local
officials. The Billerica expansion represents a $65 million
investment for the biotech firm, an affiliate of Merck KGaA of
Germany. The 140,000-square-foot facility is slated to be finished
by late 2010. It will accommodate up to 200 scientists who
specialize in treatments for cancer, neurodegenerative diseases or
fertility problems. The expansion is expected to lead to more than
100 new research jobs in the state.
