Article: MILWAUKEE COUNTY An amity eruption Taxpayers deserve government officials at all levels who work together to meet financial challenges rather than point fingers and undercut each other.

On Friday, after a series of meetings, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and key members of the County Board were able to reach an agreement that avoids 200 temporary layoffs of county employees. The layoffs were deemed necessary to fill a $3 million gap in Milwaukee County's 2009 budget. Cuts still will have to be made, but the agreement buys time to find other places to cut, although furloughs or other such measures still might be necessary.

The result of the meetings was a refreshing change from the recent finger-pointing and recrimination that tend to mark relations at the courthouse and between local governments and the state. Kudos to all involved, even if this is an exception ...
