A MAJOR Plymouth manufacturer is to close its factory resulting
in the loss of 80 jobs.
Staff at Gleason Cutting Tools Ltd, based at Estover Industrial
Estate, have been told their jobs are likely to go from January
onwards and the factory will be closed next October.
Last ditch attempts have been made recently to keep the site
open, but management finally made the decision to close earlier this
week.
Kevin Norman, GMB trade union representative for Gleason Cutting
Tools Ltd, said the factory was losing Pounds 250,000 a month having
experienced a 70 per cent drop in trade which management blame on
the economic downfall.
Mr Norman described the announcement as being the "end of an
era".
