NORTHERN Ireland's government departments have come under fire
from environmental campaigners after racking up a bill of almost
Pounds 2 million last year to provide car parking spaces to staff.
Only one department -- the Department of Finance and Personnel --
has spent anything on providing bicycle parking bays for staff in
the past three years and it was unable to provide the stats.
Friends of the Earth said the government's incoherent policies
undermine its credibility when it tells the public to cut carbon
emissions by using greener transport.
The figures were revealed by Finance Minister Sammy Wilson in
response to an Assembly question put by Sinn Fein's Daithi McKay.
