WALLS of plants are appearing all over London quicker than you
can say botanical tapestry. The vertical garden, a vital urban
weapon against global warming, improves air quality, provides
insulation, dulls sound and cools the ambient air temperature.
Comprising thousands of plants set into blocks of contrasting
greenery, living walls look fabulous, too, and have enlivened the
London landscape immensely, from the Westfield shopping centre in
W12 to the Athenaeum Hotel in W1.
Now the continued greening of London moves, for the first time,
indoors. Picture everybody's favourite houseplants -- peace lily,
fern, creeping fig -- multiply them by 11,000, imagine them all on
