NEW YORK - They have spent close to the Gross National Product
of some small countries to acquire players over the years, but in
winning their 27th championship last night with a 7-3 victory over
the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series, we are
reminded that a New York Yankees' championship is again synonymous
with four remarkable players - Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge
Posada, and Andy Pettitte.
Pettitte went to Houston for three years (when the Yankees didn't
win a championship) and came back, but last night The Big Four won
their fifth title in 14 years.
