THE long-term future of the North West 200 has been been secured.
Government, the Tourist Board and Coleraine Borough Council
yesterday jointly rode to the rescue with a package to keep main man
Mervyn Whyte in control of Northern Ireland's biggest single
sporting event.
Whyte will now take on the new role of Race Director, overseeing
the overall operation working alongside a management team of seven
who will be responsible for safety, the paddock, general duties,
communications, finance, operations and course set-up.
There had been a very real danger Whyte's expertise could have
been lost to the race as the week-long event, attracting over
130,000 fans, had become too much for one man and ...
