Article: In dignity and solemnity, the sacrifice of past and present generations was saluted

GENERATIONS of soldiers who laid down their lives in war were remembered at cenotaphs around Northern Ireland.

Dignitaries played their part in ceremonies of potent solemnity - but the day belonged to families, some remembering long-dead relatives in faded photographs, others loved ones serving in the Army in the present day.

Some had both in their hearts.

Crowds began gathering from around 10.30am around Belfast City Hall, the morning sun seeming to shine respectfully on them.
